Hana and the Flood

So, it kept raining....

But yours truly decided to go to Tanya's house. I was supposed to meet her and then go into town to pick up stitching from our taylor. My parents were planning to go to their house later that evening to speak at a small gathering.

When I started walking, it wasn't raining too hard. I walked along the side of the road for about 3 kilometers. By that time it was raining hard and I was drenched to the bone. At this point, shoes are worthless. Then, I came to the "swamp" area. It wasn't a swamp anymore. It was a lake with a road running under it. The bit of the road under water was about 200 ft. Only the big, big, big trucks could get through.

But, I decided that it wasn't really that deep- only waist. I wasn't about to turn around and I figured I couldn't get any wetter. So, I started wading through it and I had the best time!!! At first it was only knee deep and then it got deeper. The traffic was so backed up and blocked. But, you could go on the side of the road and it was thigh/waist deep most of the way. The current was pretty strong! It was a little muddy, and a little slippy, but hey! I took a bit of a slip and got freshly wet! I laughed so hard and the Indians thought it was so funny to see a white woman wading through waist deep water. I was offered many rides on trucks that were not moving, but headed in the wrong direction. I preferred the water.

I came out on the other side of the flooded area and got a rickshaw to take me the rest of the way to Tanya's. He would only go on the main road because once it got to the back roads where Tanya lives, it was too deep again. So, I paid him and bid him farewell and splashed my way to her house.

And it kept raining...

Tany and I didn't go into town.

Morne, the dad, went to get my parents in his big truck. He called 20 min. later to say there was no way he could make it. The roads were too flooded. So, he came back. I really was stuck! How fun! We had a great time!

Last night it stopped raining and today did not rain, so I made it home no problem.

But, I do hear thunder in the distance....
