A 24 hour Holliday
This weekend, I was fortunate enough to have a 24 hour Holiday! This is how it came about- I have a good friend, Nikki, whom I have not seen for 8 years. We spent a summer together working on a hospital in Mozambique. We both talked about becoming nurses and going back to the mission field. We have kept in touch through the years and as it turns out, Nikki's husband has a friend getting married in Iowa. Nikki was flying in Thursday night, which also happened to be the night of the Bachelor party. So, I planned check into the hotel her husband had booked for us and pick her up from the airport at midnight. We would spend Friday morning downtown and then meet up with the buys in the afternoon. They would go off to the wedding and I would go home. So, I decided to take full advantage of this opportunity and showed up at the hotel right at check in time- 2:00 pm. I went for a swim in the pool, sat in the hot tub, took a bath, read my book (non textbook, I'll have you know). Then, I decided to go into town and found myself in a wonderful place with a wonderful cup of coffee. I had a wonderful time sitting in a comfy chair sipping decaf coffee and basking in the glory of America- it really doesn't get any better than that. So, the few hours passed and soon, I was off the the airport and picked Nikki up- it was great to see her! We stayed up and talked for a few hours until our eyelids slipped shut. We slept in until 9:00 and went downstairs for a great hot breakfast! Then, after collecting several maps of down town Iowa City, we were off!!!
Nikki is from Florida, so for her to see snow was amazing! She kept stomping in it and touching it- it was so funny because these are the dregs of what we have had this year, but it was enough to amuse Nikki!
Downtown... We spent the morning in the art museum, which turned out to be quite nice.
It was great to talk and catch up with Nikki. When we were in Africa together, we were so determined to become nurses and here we are- both nurses and still planning what we wanted to do 8 years ago! We saw this rendition on the side of a building- isn't it great!!?!!
We went to a coffee/sandwich/soup cafe for lunch.
Then, went back to the airport and met up with Nikki's husband. After one last photo, they went on their way and I went on mine.
It really was a great little Holiday and I had a wonderful time!
