Day 33 - The freeking desert!

We have decided that we are sick of the desert and it is time for us to skedaddle before we get even more dehydrated, dizzy and exhausted. It is 110 degrees and the "breeze" is hotter than the air. So, we made a haul today. We drove from Utah through Vegas to L.A. Melodee drove in the cities and I drove in between. (We drive a standard and it has no air conditioning)

The desert we are escaping.

I failed to mention that during our not-so-grand-canyon-day, we lost our radio as well. The roughness of the road blew it out and we have nothing- no way of making music at all. So, we just think of all the songs we know and start singing. Neither of us can sing. When I say that, I am not being modest. We can't sing -as in the only time we are on pitch is when we are going from sharp to flat. Skeeter, being a good dog knows pitch and knows that we cannot sing. When we started, she gave us this look and tucked her ears down under the dashboard.... go on, laugh. I wish I was kidding, but I am not. ... poor thing.

As we approached Vegas, we realized just how out of place we really are. We hit a bit of traffic and all the people around us were showered and clean, riding in their shiny, air conditioned cars talking on their phones sipping cold water.
We provide a bit of a contrast. Here we are in a mud slung 4 wheel drive truck with a make sift window flapping in the breeze. We have not showered in a while, our hair is a mess, our clothes are covered in dirt and mud, we are guzzling a 2 liter of Gatorade to keep from dehydrating, singing to keep ourselves occupied with our pit bull panting in the open window. As people go by, they stop talking on their pones, stop drinking their cold water and stare at us. We just laugh because at this point, it is laugh or cry.

The few shots of Vegas as we drove through...

This is where we stopped to re tape our window. Every gas station has a Casino.

We duct taped a cross on top of the tarp to keep the "window" from flapping open again and then we decided it needed an X as well. . . and the result was a bit of a union jack, confederate flag look. It was truly unintentional, but I don't think it surprised anybody.

We eventually made it to California and are staying with Melodee's Aunt Margie.
