We met up with Melodee's cousin in L.A. 
She took us to see the Venice canals! These were built by a very rich man who moved to California from Venice, Italy.
His wife didn't want to move, so he built a huge system of canals with beautiful homes on them, which he sold and rented to people.
When she came to California and saw the "Little Venice" he had made for her, she didn't like it and said it wasn't like Venice at all and wanted to go home. So... there sat the canals and homes.
The government wanted to fill the whole area with cement and make a parking lot. But, the people who lived in the homes and everyone in the surrounding area loved the homes and canals. They stood in front of the machines and demanded to keep the canals intact. So, the government gave in and here are all the beautiful canals and homes.
Then we went by Universal studios...

We drove in the afternoon up north a bit to Melodee' other great aunt's house.
