Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

We thought the snow had subsided a bit, but we discovered that another storm was headed our way. So, we settled inside and waited it out. It started to snow Tuesday afternoon and they said it would last for 24 hours. So, I thought we most likely would not have school the following day.
Just to be sure, I got up at the regular time and called in.... we were one hour delayed! ONE hour! The worst of the storm had not yet hit us, and we were supposed to go to school!?!?!? I was not happy, but, I hauled my bum out of bed and got ready. 10 minutes before my friend was going to pick me up, I called again and they decided to cancel!
We got a foot of snow in the night. This is on TOP of the foot we had earlier in the week! So, I got my trusty old measuring stick out again and measured in a spot I had shoveled. In the late morning, it measured almost 21 inches and by the afternoon, we were up to 24 inches. They said on the news that we got 42 inches in 72 hours- wow!I decided to make use of my day off school by walking in the snow! I must admit that I was one of the only crazy people out in snow like this. The other one was a post man.
This photo is my lovely car. This is at the beginning of my walk, in the morning. We still had about 4 inches to go. Later that afternoon, I was to babysit for a family. When the snow finally stopped, I tried to get in my car. After I pried the door open, I realized that I was standing at the level of my seat in the car, and snow fell from my feet onto the seat. So, I kinda folded myself in half to climb into my car. That was one of my first clues that this whole pull-the-car-out-in-3-feet-of-snow idea was not going to work. As I am sure you can imagine, we had a slight change of plans.

These are a few shots of Oskaloosa

some of the snow was up to my knees
this is my gate.
So, what did I end up doing with my snow day? I baked cookies- and ate way too many. These are peanut butter oat meal M & M cookies. yummm!!
Then, instead of digging out my car, the family I was supposed to babysit for picked me up and I watched the girls for a while.
We ended the day with a large vegie pizza and an early night.
